Kulimela Event:

This is a creative process I’ve been working with for about ten years with a variety of age groups but particularly has been meaningful for young people in foster care and those who’ve been in traumatic situations. Also have offered it for professional development in many contexts.

It’s experiential, but NOT baring your soul in public or showing all your dirty washing. This is a very safe space, imaginative, intimate as you want it to be and can be very inspirational as it opens up perspectives and possibilities in a very natural and fluid way. The idea of using the creative arts (could be arranging a bunch of objects, selecting visual images that appeal to you, using a camera, drawing, moving, telling a story, collecting things from the woods – anything – yes, the idea is that you get to see your inner experience on the outside and entrenched ways of being with your experiences or meanings you have taken on from them, are able to be processed. Somehow, just seeing your inner experience in outward form brings about a shift in your relationship with that experience. It is subtle but incredibly insightful.

Specially appealing for anyone who wants to look at significant times in their lives that have impacted upon them – allowing new possibilities to unfold. Basically, the art of this workshop is not necessarily to do with drawing or dancing, though this may well be your form of expression – but the art we trained in is that of being a present and trustworthy companion. To enter the world of another’s experience demands the utmost respect and presence. If you’d like to learn this way of being with others or get a sense of how it works, that would be fantastic and it would be my privilege to share it with you. After doing counseling for years, this amazingly stimulating, unpretentious and wonderful process was so much more fun and e- l – a – s – t – i – c!!!! Can’t stand very rigid procedures that are very “heady” or conceptual. This workshops is based upon YOUR LIVED EXPERIENCE – not someone else’s idea of it!
