KulimeLA 2009 – Art Show

This is an open invitation for all Gurukulis to submit their artwork.

The purpose of this art show is to explore the artistic talent of our very own Kuli artists. There is no set medium; we are looking for any artistic art form that best expresses your feelings and creativity. Each artist should supply a small background of themselves and their artwork. Each artist interested must submit at least one photograph of their artwork by mail or email so that we can select a variety of art to display.

I would like to host a booth which talks about taking care of the body and mind along with the soul. If we keep our bodies healthy, we can chant better, serve bertter and move forward our movement of KC. I am a physician trained in psychiatry from the Johns Hopkins Hospital and would like to have a booth highlighting how to take care of young bodies so they stay healthy (what screening etc a young person needs, frequent illness encountered and how to get help). In addition, I would like to touch upon mental illness/health and how to know when you or a loved one needs help.

is there any facilities for those with young childrens, and also anything planned for older ones ?

Hari Krishna das will lead a presentation followed by a debate covering the topic of a book which he is currently writing. The theme of the book is an objective analysis of the rational and scientific basis of the two mutually exclusive viewpoints: (i) that our existence is purely the result of evolution, chance and chaos, or (ii) that our existence is the result of an intelligent force/energy. Hari Krishna das will also explore the meaning, rationality and thus consequences of both view points from a non-sectarian, objective view point, leading to some quite astounding conclusions. Anyone interested in the debate between science, philosophy, and religion will not want to miss this.

We are a very young religious organization, having only 40 some years behind us. We second generation devotees have been introduced to KC in a wide variety of ways, from extreme dogmatic teaching to a “take what you want leave what you want” kind of mood. This workshop will be an open forum to invite those who have already had children and those who simply think about how they will bring their child/ren up in this world and in this KC movement. Together let us share experience and wisdom to help strengthen community and inspire loving, God conscious parenthood.

Lets get together and discuss the idea of a European Festival Bus tour.

Who would like to be involved?

How can we organize?

How can we raise funds?

What should the mission be?

Etc etc.

It’s a fascinating topic and one many people discuss regularly. So lets see if we can make it a reality for the future.

Over a period of days we will present and hold discussions on various short films.

Kuli related films: we will show the Kulimela film from NV, the Moscow Mela film, a film on Italian Gurukula and Kuli’s.

Kuli done films: Madhi, KD, Ishan, Rasacharaya are a few Kuli’s who have chosen film as their medium. We will get short films from all of them.
